Methyl methacrylate (MMA) adhesives have a different cure mechanism. The reaction are based on esters of methacrylic acid. The curing of the reactive systems takes place on the principle of radical chain polymerization. With the quick hardening Methyl methacrylate adhesives, sheer strengths in excess of 30 Mpa are achievable before ageing. After a short period of time (minutes) the rate of reaction increases to provide more rapid strength being build-up. In many cases, functional rigidity of 5 Mpa can therefore be achieved after only 5 minutes.
